“FUJIAN FUNK (feat. Matt Cain)” AVAILABLE NOW!

Years ago, I had the honor of playing with acclaimed producer and multi-instrumentalist Matt Cain (Nadis Warriors, Spank) in a project called Dr. Juice Leg. Now, we’ve re-united to unleash a torrent of FUNK inspired by the fine teas of Fujian province. Imagine a collaboration between Frank Zappa and GRiZ. The result would sound something like our new track “Fujian Funk!”

Cha Zui teams up with renounced producer and multi-instrumentalist Matt Cain (the Nadis Warriors, Spank) to deliver a syncopated blast of FUNK! Named for the fine teas from Fujian Provence in China, this tune features trippy sound design, complex fusion guitar melodies, and punishing polymeters.

My collaboration with Josh Pearson is available on all major online platforms! He played a well crafted, emotionally moving solo that shreds. I felt that my skills improved as a result of this project, and I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to create art with such a stellar musician.

"Zhurong" is the first Cha Zui single available on all major online platforms. It is a short tone poem that depicts the fire god Zhurong defeating the spirits of pestilence. The piece is organized into 3 parts: An introduction representing Zhurong, a call-and response section signifying his battle with Gonggong, and lastly a triumphant conclusion featuring a soaring synth solo.
